Out & About - Bashall Barn near Clitheroe

Continuing on our Clitheroe treasure hunt, let me introduce you to Bashall Barn.

Set in on an idyllic spot, in the middle of Ribble Valley countryside, with gorgeous views, Bashall Barn is my ideal Sunday breakfast place. It is just gorgeous and its decor reminds me a little of the restaurants back home in Brazil.

The beauty of this place is not just its location and vibe, but also its history and mission. Here it is not just about how good the food tastes, but where it comes from. They proudly produce their own as well as stocking local produce.

Bashall Barn started as a farm shop selling locally produced artisan food. If like me you have never heard of "artisan food", you will be pleased to know it means your food is produced or prepared by hand the old-fashion way. So no heavy machinery is involved and mass production is not an option. Most recently Bashall Barn became a Food Visitor Center selling and serving some of the best artisan food in the area.

The views are gorgeous, especially on sunny days, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming to families and children. You can pop in for a coffee, brunch or lunch 363 days of the year. It is also well signed from the A59 so if you do not know the area very well and is just visiting you will not struggle to find it. Beware they close at 5pm, though, if you are coming from a little far away. The only problem here, like with every artisan food venue, is that no two batches are the same. As the food is produced by hand it also gives for wide variations depending on the hand of the chef or maker. I have been here and had wonderful meals as I have also been there and had very average ones. On the other hand the shop is amazing and constant so have a try of their home-made ice cream, which is yummy and has a very interesting flavor selection, their locally produced honey - while the kids look at bees in season in the observation hive through the glass at the bar - and take home some Jelly Belly jelly beans in some fantastic flavors as well as wine, meat, cards or anything else you might fancy from the shop.
